The MMIT Architects studio for his project of the Malecón stadium, headquarters of Gimnástica de Torrelavega, is one of five finalists selected by the prestigious international prizes of architecture WAN ’21 for 21′. The equipment of Cantabrian architects has been selected between 158 international studies.

A project that does of the need virtue: opposite to the complex proportions of an extremely long and narrow place one decided to promote the visual longitudinal one, underlining it with two “tongues” of wood and resin that organize the program.

The new soccer stadium of Gimnástica de Torrelavega, with 6000 seats, was constructed in the place of the former field, on the river Besaya. Measurements were taken to avoid the flood of the area of game.
MMIT Arquitectos, integrated by Javier Terán and the brothers Agustín and Alberto Montes, chose, from its creation in 2002, the participation in public contests as route to approach major professional challenges. The sports architecture in Spain has provided a great list of exemplary works as the new Cantabrian stadium the Malecon
The building is built by the parameters set as the winner of a design competition in 2008 for the redevelopment of the Malecon stadium in the industrial city of Torrelavega (Cantabria). The action contemplated the demolition of the old facilities maintaining the pitch and keeping the light towers that were placed in 2005.
The jury considered that the result obtained in this project, promoted by the Regional Culture and Sports and the City of Torrelavega, achieved “a remarkable quality for its successful urban definition, adequate adaptation to use and provide a strong character building, essential aspects that are achieved with a constructive and formal containment”
MMIT Arquitectura & Urbanismo, S.L, Javier Terán Alonso, Agustín Montes Gaisán and Alberto Montes Gaisán have won the XV Architecture Award of the College of Architects of Cantabria for the new Malecon stadium, in Torrelavega. Jury of the 15th edition unanimously agreed to grant this award to MMIT Architects, as the result achieved a remarkable quality.
